Liverpool Look to Bounce Back at Anfield

Liverpool kick off their first home Premier League game of the season against a Nottingham Forest side desperate to avoid a third straight loss. It's a fresh start for Anfield too, since this marks Andoni Iraola's first league match in charge on home turf after taking over from Arne Slot.

The Reds didn't exactly get off to the perfect start themselves. They needed a stoppage-time Dominik Szoboszlai penalty just to salvage a 2-2 draw away at Newcastle, coming from behind after a shaky defensive showing. Ryan Gravenberch and Szoboszlai have both taken heat for their part in Newcastle's goals, and there's been talk of Liverpool eyeing Monaco's Lamine Camara to shore things up in midfield.

Still, history is on Iraola's side. Liverpool have won their opening home league match in 12 of the last 13 seasons.

Forest, meanwhile, are in real trouble. Oliver Glasner's start as their fifth manager in under a year has been rough, with back-to-back defeats to Leeds United in the league and EFL Cup. They've failed to score in four of their last six games, and a third straight loss this weekend could put even more pressure on Glasner this early into his reign.

That said, Forest have actually done alright against Liverpool lately, losing just once in their last four meetings.

Spurs Host Newcastle Looking for Their First Win of the Season

Later on, Tottenham welcome Newcastle to North London with both sides needing a response after underwhelming Premier League openers.

Roberto De Zerbi's expensively assembled Spurs side were thumped 3-0 at Brentford in their first match, but they looked far sharper in midweek, hammering Charlton Athletic 5-1 in the EFL Cup. New £85 million signing Savio scored and set one up off the bench, and that win at least sets up a tough third-round tie away at Liverpool next month.

Spurs are trying to avoid losing their opening two league games for the first time since 2011-12, and their home form gives fans reason for hope. They've won their opening home league match in each of the last five seasons by a combined score of 14-1.

The problem is Newcastle. Spurs have lost six of their last eight league meetings with the Magpies and haven't kept a clean sheet against them in 14 straight tries.

Newcastle come into the game full of confidence after a wild 3-2 EFL Cup win over West Brom in midweek, with new signings Nico Gonzalez and Bazoumana Toure both making an instant impact. New head coach Matthias Jaissle has praised the energy of the fans and promised more entertaining football after a disappointing 12th-place finish under Eddie Howe last term.

But away form has been a real issue for Newcastle. They've won only four of their last 22 league games on the road. On the flip side, they've won more Premier League away games at Tottenham than anywhere else, taking three of their last four visits there.
