Aduku Sees Bright Future for Falconets Despite U-20 World Cup Exit

Nigeria's Falconets have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, but head coach Moses Aduku says he's still upbeat about what lies ahead for his young squad despite the disappointment.

Nigeria's run in the tournament ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia at the Stadion Miejski LKS in Lodz on Sunday afternoon. The game looked to be heading for extra time before Valerin Loboa struck in the 92nd minute to send Colombia through to the semi-finals, where they'll now face DPR Korea.

Even in defeat, there were plenty of individual performances for Aduku to take heart from, with players like goalkeeper Christianah Uzoma, Tosin Rafiu, Janet Akekoromowei and Ramotalahi Kareem all standing out over the course of the tournament.

Speaking to FIFA after the game, Aduku was quick to point to the bigger picture, framing the tournament as a valuable step in the development of his young squad.

"First and foremost, this tournament is good for the young players," Aduku said. "It gives them the ability to grow and reach the next level. I think, in Nigeria, we have seen the future of our players. And I think the future is very bright."
