Ancelotti Hands Brazil a Youth Overhaul in First Squad Since World Cup Exit

Carlo Ancelotti has named his first Brazil squad since the 2026 World Cup, and it looks nothing like the one that went to North America. Only nine players from that tournament survive on the new 26-man list, eight players are getting their first ever call-up, and just two of the group are over 30.

The average age of the squad has dropped from 28.6 to 24.2 compared to the World Cup roster. Big names like Neymar, Casemiro, Alisson and Ederson are all left out this time around.

A New Generation Takes Shape

Some of the younger faces will already be familiar to Brazil fans. Estêvão is back after missing the World Cup through injury, and he's joined by Endrick and Rayan. But there are plenty of fresh names too, including 19-year-old Athletico-PR defender Arthur Dias, Corinthians midfielder Breno Bidon, who has been one of the standout performers in Brazilian football this year, and 20-year-old Cruzeiro goalkeeper Otávio.

Only two players over 30 made the cut: Douglas Santos and Marquinhos, both 32. Ten of the 26 players called up currently play their club football in Brazil.

Ancelotti Explains The Shift

Asked at his press conference whether older players would now find it harder to earn a place in the squad, Ancelotti made clear that his priority right now is building for the future. He said the door remained open for everyone, but that his current focus was on developing the younger players and guiding their progress.

What Comes Next

Brazil's next assignment comes on September 25 against Australia at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, with a second meeting between the two sides following on the 29th at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium.

The squad then travels to India for a first-ever meeting between the two nations, set for October 3 at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Brazil will close out the year with November friendlies against Japan and Singapore.
