Aston Villa Sack Women’s Manager Natalia Arroyo After Winless Start
Aston Villa have sacked women's manager Natalia Arroyo after a poor start to the Women's Super League season.
Villa are still without a win after four league games, having drawn two and lost two. The disappointing run led to the club's decision to part ways with the Spaniard.
The decision came after Villa were beaten 4-0 by Tottenham on Sunday. They are due to face Newcastle in the Women's League Cup on Wednesday at 19:30.
Arroyo joined Villa in January 2025 and still had two years left on her contract. She was informed of the decision on Monday evening, with the players told on Tuesday morning.
Former Everton manager Brian Sorensen, who currently works as Villa's women's technical advisor, has been placed in interim charge.
Arroyo is the first WSL manager to leave her position this season. Former Manchester United boss Marc Skinner and ex-Brighton manager Dario Vidosic both stepped down earlier this year.
Arroyo initially helped Villa move away from the relegation battle after taking charge in January 2025 and showed signs of progress during her first months at the club.
However, Villa struggled for consistency last season despite adding to their squad during the transfer window.
There was increased pressure on the team to improve in 2026-27. Villa opened the season with a draw against Chelsea but have since struggled defensively and looked disorganised without the ball.
Sunday's heavy defeat by Tottenham added to those concerns and ultimately led to the decision to end Arroyo's time at the club.
