Bundesliga: Mainz Edge M’gladbach in Seven-Goal Thriller as Bremen Complete Stunning Comeback

Round 4 of the Bundesliga served up plenty of twists, with two teams battling back from behind and another match producing a wild finish that went right down to the wire.

The pick of the weekend came at Borussia-Park, where Mainz edged out Borussia M'gladbach 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller. The hosts actually led twice, first through Florian Neuhaus and again through Isac Lidberg after the break, but Mainz kept finding answers. Sheraldo Becker was at the heart of it all, scoring one and setting up another to earn an 7.9 rating and the match ball, while a late M'gladbach penalty from Shuto Machino in stoppage time made things nervy but wasn't enough. M'gladbach will be gutted too, having also missed an earlier penalty and struck the woodwork before the visitors' two late corner goals settled it.

SV Werder Bremen produced their own comeback, coming from two goals down to beat Augsburg 3-2 at home. Robin Fellhauer and Calvin Brackelmann had Augsburg cruising, but Bremen hit back through Marco Grüll, Niclas Füllkrug and a stoppage-time winner from substitute Mitchell Weiser. Despite the loss, Augsburg keeper Finn Dahmen was named man of the match after a string of big saves kept his side ahead for as long as it lasted.

Hamburger SV picked up a big scalp against Köln, winning 2-1 despite having just 32 percent of the ball. Nicolás Capaldo headed the hosts in front right before half time, and substitute Yussuf Poulsen doubled the lead just after the break to earn the top rating on the pitch. Köln pulled one back deep into stoppage time through Ragnar Ache, but it was too little too late, with HSV's sharper finishing and stubborn defending doing the damage.

Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg shared the points in a 2-2 draw that had goals flying in all afternoon. Frankfurt led twice through Younes Ebnoutalib and Jonathan Burkardt, but Freiburg hit back both times, with Yuito Suzuki's finish just after half time cancelling out Burkardt's goal to make it 2-2. Freiburg's Derry Scherhant was the standout performer, grabbing a goal and an assist to take the match's top rating.
