Claudia Pina Scores Hat-Trick as Barcelona Women Thrash Alaves 6-0

Barcelona Women made light work of Deportivo Alaves on the road, winning 6-0 in Liga F with substitute Claudia Pina stealing the show, scoring a hat-trick in just 45 minutes off the bench.

The game was already 3-0 at halftime and Barcelona never let up, finishing with 6-0 on the board and dominating pretty much every stat that matters.

Barcelona in Total Control From the Start

Barcelona held 74 percent of the ball and completed nearly three times as many passes as Alaves, 592 to 201. They got into the final third 64 times and won 12 corners along the way. By the end of the game they'd taken 32 shots to Alaves' 8, with 13 on target compared to just 3 for the home side. Their expected goals tally sat at 2.76 against Alaves' 0.50, a gap that widened even further when looking at expected goals on target, 3.28 to 0.44.

Barcelona's average player rating for the match came out to 8.13, well above Alaves' 5.87. They also had far more joy in the box, racking up 61 touches inside the penalty area compared to just 13 for Alaves, and getting 22 of their 32 shots off from inside that area.

Alaves didn't give up without a fight defensively. They actually won 56 percent of all duels and made 26 tackles and 35 clearances. But Barcelona kept finding ways through, helped by winning the recovery battle 51 to 33 and completing 83 percent of their final third sequences.

How the Goals Came

Caroline Graham Hansen opened the scoring in the 19th minute, cutting in from the right to finish a move started by Patricia Guijarro. Ten minutes later, Sydney Schertenleib made it 2-0 after a corner routine involving Ewa Pajor. Right before halftime, Carolina Ferrera Torres added a third from another corner, a goal that needed a VAR check before it stood. At the break, Barcelona already led 3-0 with a shot count of 19-3 in their favor.

The second half belonged to Pina. She came on for Hansen at halftime and needed just 10 minutes to score, finishing off a Pajor assist for the fourth goal. She struck again from distance in the 73rd minute, then completed her hat-trick in the 90th with a right-footed finish set up by Kika Nazareth. Alaves had a couple of late chances reviewed by VAR, including a penalty shout that wasn't given, but nothing changed the outcome. Barcelona even hit the woodwork at one point and still managed three more goals after the interval.

The Numbers Behind the Scoreline

Barcelona finished with 13 shots on target out of 32 attempts, 22 of them from inside the box. Alaves managed just 8 shots all game and only 1 on target in the second half. Barcelona completed 515 accurate passes, more than four times what Alaves managed.

Alaves' goalkeeper Sofia Fuente made 6 saves but still finished with a negative goals prevented figure of minus 2.72, a rough day behind a defense that couldn't hold up. At the other end, Barcelona's Gemma Font had a quiet night, making 3 saves and one high claim.

Pina's Impact Off the Bench

Pina's 45 minute cameo was as clinical as it gets. She scored in the 55th, 73rd and 90th minutes to earn a perfect Sofascore rating of 10. In that time she also took 6 shots, 3 on target, drew 5 fouls, and created 4 chances for teammates. Her expected goals figure for the game reached 0.51, with expected goals on target even higher at 0.93. She completed 33 of 42 passes and made 19 ball carries, constantly driving Barcelona forward and keeping Alaves pinned back as the game wore on.

Strong Displays Elsewhere Too

Pina wasn't the only one to impress. Schertenleib scored and rated 8.1 for her work down the right, completing 49 of 52 passes. Hansen was lively in her 45 minutes before being replaced, scoring once and creating a big chance for an 8.0 rating. Ferrera Torres controlled the midfield and scored too, finishing with a 7.6, while captain Patricia Guijarro set the tempo and picked up the assist for the opener.

At the back, Marta Torrejon mixed defending with attacking threat, making 13 clearances, while young full-back Martina Fernandez was tidy in possession with 51 of 55 passes completed. For Alaves, Ines Juan Altamira was one of the few bright spots, rating 7.3 as she led the defensive effort.

Pina was the standout by some distance though, topping the match ratings and picking up 450 of 553 fan votes for Player of the Match.
