Fulham Eye New Deal for Bassey Amid Inter Milan Transfer Talk

Fulham are working on a new contract for Calvin Bassey as they try to keep hold of the Nigerian defender, with Inter Milan reportedly circling, according to Soccernet.

Bassey, 26, has grown into a key figure for the Premier League club since arriving from Ajax three years ago in a move that made him the most expensive defender in Super Eagles history.

He has racked up 105 appearances for Fulham across all competitions since then, chipping in with four goals and an assist. His consistency has not gone unnoticed at the club either, as he was named Fulham's Player of the Season for the 2024-25 campaign.

Bassey started 30 Premier League games last season and also played a big part for Nigeria as the Super Eagles picked up bronze at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Since Marco Silva left the club, Bassey has stayed central to Fulham's plans under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa, who has already made him captain for each of the team's first three league games this season.

His strong form has caught the eye of clubs across Europe, and Inter Milan are said to be among those keen on signing him, according to a report from Livescore.

Adding to the speculation is the fact that Bassey's contract runs out in the summer of 2027. Fulham are not under pressure to sell right away, though, since the club holds an option to extend his deal by a further year. On top of that, they are looking at putting together a fresh contract that better reflects how important he has become to the team.

By most accounts, Bassey is settled in west London and would be open to signing an extension. That should work in Fulham's favor as talks move forward.

The Nigeria international, who can play centre-back or left-back, is also reportedly one of the better paid players at Craven Cottage. Per Capology, Bassey earns a gross weekly wage of £45,000, which comes out to around £2.34 million a year before bonuses and other add-ons.
