Kai Havertz Returns to Arsenal for Tests After Hamstring Injury With Germany
Kai Havertz will head back to Arsenal for further assessment after picking up a hamstring injury on international duty with Germany.
The forward was substituted in the first half of Germany's draw with the Netherlands in the Nations League in Amsterdam on Thursday night. Speaking after the match, Germany manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed Havertz would be sent for a scan and is unlikely to feature again during this international break.
"Probably out for us, but hopefully then also relatively quickly available again," Klopp said.
Havertz will leave the Germany camp on Friday and return to Arsenal, with the German Football Association describing the issue as a muscle strain. He'll undergo further tests with Arsenal's medical team, though there is some optimism that the injury isn't serious.
Havertz was already due to report back to Arsenal ahead of the club's other international players. With Klopp naming a larger first Germany squad split into two groups, Havertz had only been set to feature in the first two of Germany's four matches during this extended window anyway, though even that plan has now been cut short.
The timing does at least give Havertz a bit more time than usual to recover, with Arsenal not back in action until they host in form Leeds at the Emirates on October 10.
He had been in good form for Arsenal before the injury, scoring in last month's 3-0 Community Shield win over Manchester City and starting all five of Arsenal's Premier League matches so far this season. Havertz struggled with injuries for much of last season, and has already matched his total of two league goals from the whole of last term.
