LaLiga Roundup: Atlético Beat Real Madrid, Sociedad and Villarreal Win and Getafe Snatch Late Victory

Round 7 of LaLiga produced a dramatic derby decided by a red card, a narrow home win built on late quality, and a routine victory for one of the league's early pace-setters.

The headline result came at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, where Atlético Madrid beat rivals Real Madrid 2-1 in a game that turned on a second-half sending off. The first half was cagey and goalless, but everything changed just after the break when Dean Huijsen was shown red for a last-man foul. Alejandro Grimaldo converted the resulting penalty a minute later, and Jonathan David doubled the lead soon after. Antonio Rüdiger gave Madrid late hope with a header in the 89th minute, but it wasn't enough. Despite the scoreline, it was actually Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois who was named man of the match, picking up an 8.6 rating after a string of crucial saves kept his side within a shout until the very end.

Real Sociedad were involved in one of the games of the round, coming from behind twice to beat Valencia 3-2 at Mestalla with a stoppage-time winner. Luka Sučić put the visitors ahead in the first half, only for Aaron Mayol to level things up early in the second as Valencia grew into the game. Carlos Soler then won and converted a penalty to restore Real Sociedad's lead, before a Luken Beitia own goal made it 2-2 with six minutes to go. It looked to be heading for a share of the spoils until Ander Barrenetxea struck in the first minute of stoppage time, assisted by Soler, to snatch all three points. Real Sociedad even finished the game with ten men after Orri Óskarsson picked up a second yellow deep into added time. Soler was named man of the match and topped the fan vote too, after a goal, an assist and a hand in pretty much everything Real Sociedad did well on the night.

Villarreal made home advantage count with a comfortable 3-1 win over Levante, with Alberto Moleiro at the heart of everything. Ayoze Pérez put the hosts ahead before Levante levelled almost immediately through Iván Romero, but Alberto Moleiro restored the lead himself early in the second half before setting up Georges Mikautadze to wrap things up late on. Moleiro finished with a goal, two assists and an 8.8 rating, capping off a complete performance in the middle of the park.

Getafe edged out Málaga 1-0 at home, with the only goal coming from Azón in the 85th minute after a slick move involving Enes Ünal and Martín Satriano. Málaga had more of the ball on the night, but Getafe were sharper in the key areas, winning the aerial battle comfortably and creating the better chances throughout. Midfielder Ramón Terrats was named the standout performer for a tireless, all-action display, even though the fans' vote went the other way to Málaga keeper Alfonso Herrero.

Finally, Deportivo de A Coruña and Real Betis shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Riazor, in a game of two distinct halves. Cucho Hernández put Betis ahead before the break, and the visitors survived wave after wave of second-half pressure before Diego Villares equalised with a header in the 87th minute. Betis keeper Álvaro Valles was the difference in keeping the scoreline level for as long as it was, picking up an 8.5 rating and the fans' vote after a string of important saves.
