Lewis Hall Calls New Newcastle Deal a "No-Brainer" Despite Man United Interest

Lewis Hall has said signing a new long-term contract with Newcastle United was a "no-brainer," even after Manchester United showed strong interest in signing him over the summer.a

The 22-year-old put pen to paper on his new deal on 11 September, despite being United's top target for the left-back position. No official bids were ever submitted for the England international, though.

Hall has impressed at Newcastle since arriving from Chelsea in 2023, initially on loan before the move was made permanent the following year.

Asked whether the transfer speculation had been difficult to deal with, Hall told Chronicle Live it hadn't bothered him much.

"No, honestly, it didn't. I guess whenever you're linked to another team, you know that you're doing something right. I guess it's just a credit to your own performances and how you are as a player, how you are as a person," he said.

"I took that as a positive, but at the same time, I knew how much I love playing here and I knew that since the manager came in, I knew the ambitions and what we wanted to achieve. After not many conversations, not many training sessions, I knew that the manager was going to be really good for this club and I knew that as a team, bringing in new players and improving the squad was really important and as soon as we did that, it was a no-brainer really to sign."

Hall has been in fine form lately, scoring the winning goal in Newcastle's 2-1 win over Hull City on Saturday. He's also just been recalled to the England squad after missing out on the World Cup earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have struggled to find any consistency this season and currently sit 12th in the Premier League after failing to build on last season's third-place finish.

Despite committing his future to Newcastle on paper, Hall admitted he can't say for certain how long he'll stay at the club. Asked if the new contract reflected a long-term commitment, he said: "I think so. I think when you're at a team you don't think too far into the future. Obviously, I'm really grateful for the contract that I've received and the trust that I've been given from the board and from the manager and everything like that.

"But I'm just taking it game by game, just trying to do the best I can for this club. We've got ambitions and as long as we achieve these ambitions and achieve what we want to achieve, I'm sure I'll be here for a long time."

Newcastle's next fixture is away at Coventry City on 12 October.
