Mac Allister Backs Liverpool to Go All the Way in Champions League This Season
Alexis Mac Allister believes Liverpool have what it takes to win the Champions League this season, and he's saying so right before the club kicks off its European campaign against Atletico Madrid.
The Reds host Atletico under the lights at Anfield tomorrow evening in their opening group game. It's a fixture that carries plenty of pressure, given Liverpool haven't gone past the quarterfinals since 2022, falling to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain in each of the last two seasons.
Still, Mac Allister isn't shying away from big talk. Speaking at a pre-match press conference, he made it clear he thinks this Liverpool side can make a real run at the trophy.
"I am very confident about this season," he said. "We have a lot of quality, we have a very good coach that brought his ideas. I think we improved a lot since the beginning of the season, we have the desire to win trophies. We have experience, we have trophies, we have everything to be successful, but we need to be all together."
He was quick to stress that talent alone won't be enough. "You can have the best players, best ideas, but if we are not on the same page, it's impossible."
Beyond the confidence in the squad, Mac Allister also talked about how much he loves European nights at Anfield, and he's hoping the fans will help push the team forward again.
"It's so special for me, I really enjoy them," he said of European nights. "When I arrived to the club, we were in the Europa League and you can see the difference to a Champions League game. Hopefully we can play good football so the fans can get behind us."
