Messi Scores 100th Inter Miami Goal to Lift 49th Career Trophy
Lionel Messi marked his 100th goal for Inter Miami with a header that helped his side beat Cruz Azul 2-0 on Thursday to lift the Campeones Cup.
Messi opened the scoring in the 24th minute, heading home a cross from Luis Suarez. It was his 100th goal in 115 appearances across all competitions for Miami, and fittingly enough, it came against the very same club he scored his first goal for the club against, back in his July 2023 debut, when he beat Cruz Azul 2-1 with a stoppage time free kick.
Casemiro added a second in the 81st minute, heading in a corner delivered by Messi himself. It continued a strong recent run for the Brazilian midfielder, who has now scored four goals, all headers, in his last five appearances. He'd found the net in three straight games against CF Montreal, Atlanta United and Chicago before being kept quiet on Saturday against Nashville.
The win gives Inter Miami another trophy just three years after Messi's arrival at the club. They have now won the Leagues Cup in 2023, the Supporters' Shield in 2024, and MLS Cup in 2025, and now the Campeones Cup on top of that.
For Messi personally, it's the 49th trophy of his career. His full haul now reads:
- 10 La Liga titles
- 8 Spanish Super Cups
- 7 Copa del Rey titles
- 4 Champions Leagues
- 3 UEFA Super Cups
- 3 Club World Cups
- 2 Ligue 1 titles
- 2 Copa Americas
- 1 World Cup
- 1 Finalissima
- 1 Olympic medal
- 1 Under-20 World Cup
- 1 French Super Cup
- 1 Leagues Cup
- 1 MLS Supporters' Shield
- 1 Eastern Conference Championship
- 1 MLS Cup
- And now 1 Campeones Cup.
