Mutiu Adepoju Hails Warri City Stadium Pitch Renovation

Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has praised the full renovation of the Warri City Stadium pitch, calling it a big boost for domestic football in the country.

The revamped facility has been widely welcomed by those in Nigerian football, with the new playing surface expected to make games faster, safer and generally raise the standard of play at the venue.

Speaking about the transformation, Adepoju stressed how important good infrastructure is for the growth of the Nigeria Premier Football League and grassroots football more broadly.

"This pitch has given me hope that our football will be great again," he said.

The upgrade is expected to give football in Delta State a real lift, offering fans a proper modern venue to watch matches and giving local clubs a home ground they can be proud of.

The stadium has had a difficult history. Back in 2009, Warri was actually disqualified by a visiting FIFA inspection team because of how poor the pitch was at the time. Several attempts were made by past administrations over the years to fix the surface, but none of them held up until Governor Sherriff Oborevwori's administration finally got the job done.
