Vincent Kompany Says Bayern Munich Won’t Panic if Jamal Musiala Collapses Again

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany says he won't panic if Jamal Musiala collapses again on the pitch, as the young star deals with a neurological condition that causes seizures.

Musiala, 23, went public earlier this year about his diagnosis after he collapsed twice during preseason games in a row. He described it as absence seizures linked to a neurological issue. Since then, doctors changed his medication and he's been back in training, though he hasn't played in a match since.

Speaking to reporters, Kompany said Bayern is working closely with top medical experts and feels confident about handling the situation going forward. He said that if Musiala were to collapse again, whether in 40 games or 60, the club would know exactly what to do and wouldn't see it as a major issue anymore. He also said he believes Musiala will eventually go back to being just a normal athlete.

Musiala was named in Bayern's squad for their Champions League match on Thursday, though Kompany said he's still watching how the midfielder performs in training before deciding when to actually put him back on the field for a real game.

"He's doing well, he's had a good week," Kompany said, adding that the early shock around the situation seems to be fading a bit.

Bayern has said the club actually knew about Musiala's condition since at least last season. Musiala himself has said there's no extra health risk tied to him continuing to play football.

His next possible return could come this Saturday, when Bayern travels to face Schalke in the Bundesliga. If not then, he might make his comeback in Bayern's Champions League opener against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.

Musiala's last competitive appearance came at the World Cup, where Germany was eliminated on penalties by Paraguay in the round of 32.
