WSL Sunday Results: Man City Women Go Top as Arsenal Held, Chelsea Rout Man United 5-0

Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Women's Super League title defence with a 4-1 win at Aston Villa, while Arsenal were held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Crystal Palace. Chelsea produced the biggest win of the round, thrashing Manchester United 5-0, as Tottenham, Everton and Brighton also picked up points.

Manchester City kept up their perfect start to the WSL title defense with a 4-1 win at Aston Villa. Jade Rose opened the scoring after a goalkeeping error, and Mary Fowler soon made it two.

Villa pulled one back through Amalie Vangsgaard just before halftime, but City took over again after the break, with Khadija Shaw scoring a stylish dinked goal and Lauren Hemp getting on the scoresheet too, including a deflected effort in stoppage time. Hemp finished with a goal and an assist and now has 101 goal involvements in the WSL. The win puts City two points clear at the top of the table.

Arsenal were held goalless at home by newly promoted Crystal Palace, despite piling on the pressure and racking up a big xG total. Goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin made nine saves for Palace, while Alessia Russo missed a golden chance in the first half. The draw stretches Arsenal's unbeaten run to 19 games, but manager Renee Slegers admitted her side should have won.

Elsewhere, Chelsea thrashed a disjointed Manchester United 5-0, with Sjoeke Nüsken, Keira Walsh, Lauren James, Ellie Carpenter and Lucy Bronze all on the scoresheet.

Tottenham held on for a 1-1 draw at Liverpool after Signe Gaupset's deflected effort gave them a lucky lead, before Aurélie Csillag equalized for the hosts, who dominated for large spells but could not find a winner.

Everton beat 10-man Charlton 1-0, with Charlton having two players, Ashleigh Neville and Hawa Cissoko, sent off after Holly McNamara's deflected shot proved decisive.

Brighton snatched a 2-2 draw at Birmingham City in stoppage time. Océane Aline gave Birmingham an early lead before Lily Crosthwaite doubled their advantage. Olivia Garcia pulled a goal back late to give new Brighton boss Arturo Ruiz hope, before Kiko Seike wriggled clear in the final seconds to fire a deserved equalizer.
