Anthony Gordon Scores as Barcelona Beat Getafe 3-0 to Match La Liga Record
Barcelona continued their perfect start to the La Liga season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Getafe at Spotify Camp Nou, as Anthony Gordon scored his first competitive goal for the Catalan club.
The England international opened the scoring after just 78 seconds, finishing with a shot from the edge of the box that took a deflection on its way past Getafe goalkeeper David Soria. The 25-year-old, who joined Barcelona from Newcastle in May, celebrated his first goal for the club in his seventh appearance.
Gordon then helped Barcelona double their lead before half-time. His pressing forced Getafe defender Zaid Romero into a mistake, allowing Gabriel Jesus to win possession, cut inside and send a low shot into the corner.
Barcelona maintained their control after the break and added a third in the 73rd minute. Lamine Yamal delivered a dangerous ball into the box, allowing Jules Koundé to finish from close range and seal the victory.
Hansi Flick's side dominated possession with 83% of the ball and recorded 23 shots compared to Getafe's four. Barcelona also registered eight shots on target, while the visitors managed just one. The hosts created seven big chances and finished with an expected goals figure of 1.93, compared to Getafe's 0.12.
Rodri was Barcelona's highest-rated player, earning a Sofascore rating of 8.9 after completing 121 of his 126 passes. Yamal also impressed with three key passes and an assist, while Gordon made a decisive contribution with his opening goal and relentless pressing.
The win was Barcelona's eighth consecutive victory in La Liga, matching their best start to a league season, previously achieved under Gerardo Martino in 2013-14.
The result took Barcelona to 24 points, five clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid, with both sides having played eight matches.
