Arteta Signs New Arsenal Contract Until 2030
Mikel Arteta has signed a new deal to stay at Arsenal until 2030, the Premier League champions announced on Wednesday.
His old contract was due to run out at the end of this season. MatchHeadlines had earlier reported that he was set to agree a long-term extension. His coaching staff have also signed new deals, which run for four more years.
Arteta led Arsenal to their first league title in 23 years last season. He also won the FA Cup in 2020. He joined the club in December 2019 after working as assistant manager at Manchester City, and he is now the longest-serving head coach in the Premier League.
"It's a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal," he said in a statement.
He added: "This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue."
He also looked ahead. "We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together."
Arsenal's co-chairs, Stan and Josh Kroenke, praised the Spaniard too. "It has been an incredible journey so far and we are excited for what lies ahead in this special relationship," they said.
They added: "Last season was an incredible moment in Arsenal's history, a moment in which we created memories that will last a lifetime. We're determined to create many more in the years ahead."
They finished with a personal note. "We share a special bond with Mikel. We are so proud of everything we have achieved since he returned to the club in 2019."
