Atletico Madrid Captain Koke to Miss Man Utd Clash After Mother’s Death

Atletico Madrid captain Koke will miss Tuesday’s Champions League game against Manchester United after the death of his mother.

The club said Koke’s mother, Ana Merodio Borja, died early Tuesday in Madrid. Atletico did not give a cause of death.

UEFA has approved a moment of silence before the match at the Metropolitano Stadium, and Atletico’s players will wear black armbands. 

A moment of silence will also be held before the club’s Youth League game. Koke’s brother, Borja Resurreccion, is an assistant coach with the club’s under-19 side.

The club’s flag outside the Metropolitano is flying at half-staff.
