Bayern President Hainer Refuses to Rule Out Future Move for Haaland
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has refused to rule out signing Erling Haaland from Manchester City in the future, though he says the club have enough firepower for now.
Speculation about Haaland has grown since an independent commission found City guilty of serious financial breaches and of failing to cooperate with the Premier League between 2009-10 and 2017-18. That has raised the prospect of the club being demoted. Bayern see the Norwegian as an ideal world-class heir to Harry Kane.
Speaking to BILD, the 72-year-old said he is happy with what Vincent Kompany has in attack. "With Kane, [Michael] Olise, [Luis] Diaz, and the others, we have an outstanding attacking line," he said. "We scored over 120 goals last season. So I think we are very well positioned in attack."
He took a different tone when asked about Haaland as a long-term successor to Kane. "When we talk about the future in a few years, the situation will be different, and we'll see," Hainer said.
Haaland is tied to City until June 2034 after committing his future to the club. He is in red-hot form, with eight goals in his first eight games this season. Kane's own contract runs out in 2027, and with the fallout from City's verdict, links between Haaland and the German champions are likely to keep coming.
