Chelsea Confirm Reece James Has Undergone Successful Knee Surgery

Chelsea captain Reece James has had successful surgery on a knee injury, the club has announced.

The 26-year-old defender hurt the knee in training before Chelsea's 5-1 win over Bournemouth last weekend, and the club decided he should go under the knife. He is now doing rehab with the club's medical staff. No date has been given for his return.

Chelsea's next game is away at Everton in the Premier League. After that comes a tough run, with home games against London rivals Tottenham and Manchester United. A Carabao Cup trip to Liverpool sits in between those two matches.

James has had plenty of injury trouble over the past few seasons, and it has cost him several England tournaments since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Last season was much better, and he played a big part in England's World Cup run. They reached the semi-finals and then won the bronze medal match.

He was one of the players who pulled out of England duty in the last international break. The next one starts in early November, when England are due to play Croatia at Wembley.
