Matthias Jaissle Not Under Immediate Pressure at Newcastle United
Newcastle United's board is ready to give manager Matthias Jaissle time to fix their poor start to the season, despite growing unrest among fans, according to TEAMtalk.
The Magpies are 11th in the Premier League with eight points from seven games. They lost 1-0 to Aston Villa at the weekend, a week after a 4-1 defeat away to newly promoted Coventry.
Some supporters are losing patience, and one well-known fanzine has even called for the 38-year-old to be sacked. But the people running the club are said to believe in what he is building and feel he is under no immediate pressure.
The board expected a bumpy spell after Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes all left in the summer. Losing the heart of the midfield and a key attacking threat meant uneven results were always likely.
The report says the club sees the struggles as a result of those exits and not a flaw in Jaissle's tactics. It also describes his training sessions as brilliant, with a focus on high-intensity pressing and well-organised build-up play. The hierarchy is said to be convinced it will pay off in the long run.
The mood among the players is reportedly still upbeat. They like working under the former Red Bull Salzburg and Al-Ahli boss and value how clear his instructions are.
They believe the dip is only temporary and expect things to improve once new combinations click and team chemistry settles. The club views the situation as a needed phase while it rebuilds around younger and newly arrived players, and the current form has not caused serious concern in the boardroom.
Newcastle visit Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday, then face Everton in the Carabao Cup next week.
