PSG Suffer Triple Injury Blow as Kvaratskhelia Faces Rest of Season Out
Paris St-Germain have been hit by a triple injury blow after their 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia likely to miss the rest of the 2026-27 season.
The Georgian winger ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee after a collision in the 59th minute. PSG confirmed the news in a statement.
"Having suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday's match against FC Barcelona, Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days," the club said.
No return date has been set, but this kind of injury usually means at least nine months out. Kvaratskhelia posted on Instagram about how hard he is taking it.
"Not much time has passed, yet one thought keeps circling in my head: why me? I never held anything back," he wrote.
It is a tough result for coach Luis Enrique, who has also lost Ousmane Dembele. The winger went off after only 19 minutes, holding his left leg.
Le Parisien reports that he will be out for around three to four weeks. That could also put his place in the next France squad in doubt. PSG's medical staff have reportedly ruled out a more serious, long-term problem.
Captain Marquinhos is also out after picking up a right thigh problem in the same game. The club says the defender will be sidelined for a "few weeks".
The three absences come at a bad time, with a packed autumn schedule ahead. PSG want to keep their lead at the top of Ligue 1 and in the Champions League table, and Enrique will have to look for other options in attack and defence.
Their next game is a Ligue 1 match against Lyon on Sunday.
