Brentford Thrash Chelsea 3-0 to Move Up to Third as Blues Go Three Games Without a Win

Brentford scored three times in the second half to beat west London neighbours Chelsea 3-0 at the Brentford Community Stadium, a result that lifts Keith Andrews' unbeaten side up to third in the Premier League table. Chelsea, meanwhile, are now without a win in three league games and failed to score for the first time under head coach Xabi Alonso.

Set Piece Breaks the Deadlock

The first half was largely forgettable, with Pedro Neto and Morgan Rogers producing the closest efforts either side managed before the break. Chances stayed scarce even after half-time, until Brentford made the breakthrough on 61 minutes.

A deep corner from Mikkel Damsgaard was headed back across goal by Jannik Schuster, and Jaidon Anthony was left completely unmarked to nod home from a yard out. Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez chose to stay on his line rather than come for the corner, and paid for it as Brentford took the lead.

Chelsea Pushed Forward But Couldn't Find a Way Through

Chelsea had the better of possession for long spells, finishing the game with 59% of the ball, but struggled to turn that control into real danger. With seven minutes left, Brentford punished them on the counter attack. Kevin Schade was sent clean through on goal, and although Martínez did well to save his effort, Igor Thiago was on hand to slot the rebound into an empty net for his first Premier League goal of the season.

Brentford weren't finished there. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Fabio Carvalho arrived at the back post to finish off a deflected Schade cross and make it 3-0, sending the home crowd into celebration.

The Stats Behind the Scoreline

Despite having less of the ball, Brentford were far more clinical in front of goal. They created four big chances and converted three of them, finishing with 2.65 expected goals compared to Chelsea's 0.82. Chelsea managed just two shots on target all game, and their crossing was wasteful too, completing only two of 28 attempted crosses.

Brentford's Schuster had a standout game beyond his assist, adding 12 clearances, three blocks and 25 of 30 passes completed. He was named player of the match by both the ratings and the fan vote.

The result means Chelsea have now lost two of their last three league games and gone three without a win, a difficult run for Alonso's side as they try to build momentum this season.
