Buter Says Two Errors Cost Sporting Lagos Against Abia Warriors
Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter has voiced his frustration after his side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Abia Warriors in their Nigeria Professional Football League clash at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday.
Despite the home loss, Buter felt his team had done enough to take something from the game, pointing to two costly moments that ultimately decided the outcome.
"It's always disappointing to lose, especially in front of the home supporters. But I think we had a really good game," Buter said. "We were trying to find goals and had to push forward players up the pitch, which led to two mistakes and two goals conceded on the counter."
Breaking down exactly where things went wrong, Buter identified two individual errors that Abia Warriors were able to punish on the break.
"I think it went wrong with two actions. Aliu loses the ball and they hit us on the break, then Stanley loses the ball and they hit us on the break, otherwise, we had control of the game. We were more threatening and looked like we were going to score."
The coach was also asked about his substitutions during the match, and while he acknowledged that hindsight might suggest a different approach, he stood by the decisions he made in the moment.
"In hindsight, maybe you think substitutions could have been different, but with the way the game was going, that was the right thing we felt in that moment. So, it's football."
