Chelsea Strike £40m Deal for Atalanta Starlet Honest Ahanor
Chelsea have struck a deal to sign highly rated young Italian defender Honest Ahanor from Atalanta, though the 18-year-old won't actually pull on a Blues shirt until 2027.
The Premier League club confirmed the £40 million agreement on their official website, saying Ahanor will officially join once the 2027 move date arrives. Atalanta backed that up with their own statement, confirming the transfer terms and thanking the teenager for his time at the club, while wishing him well for what comes next.
Ahanor made a real name for himself last season, racking up 35 appearances for Atalanta as a teenager, a big number for someone in just his first full campaign in one of Europe's toughest leagues. That form was enough to earn him a surprise call-up to the senior Italy squad, and he picked up his first two caps back in June.
For now, though, Chelsea's plan is to send him out on loan rather than throw him straight into first-team football at Stamford Bridge.
Reports point to a move to Crystal Palace being close, which would let Ahanor get used to the Premier League before officially becoming a Chelsea player. It's a similar path the club has taken with other big young signings recently, easing them in rather than expecting them to handle the pressure of West London right away.
