Daniel Maldini Unhurt After Car Crash in Milan Hours After Scoring Cagliari Winner

Cagliari striker Daniel Maldini walked away unhurt from a two-car crash in Milan early Sunday morning, just hours after scoring the winning penalty against Atalanta the night before, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The crash happened at around 5:15am at the junction of Via Tolentino and Via Francesco Caracciolo, following a night out. What started as a two-car collision turned into a three-vehicle incident after a parked Mercedes SUV was also hit in the chaos.

Emergency crews were quick to arrive, sending three ambulances and a medical car to the scene. Six people suffered minor injuries in total, and five, including Maldini, were taken to hospital as a precaution. Maldini was brought to Fatebenefratelli Hospital, checked over, and released a short time later.

His lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, confirmed the striker was fine. "After a brief checkup with a code blue at the emergency room, Daniel was immediately released and returned home. He is in good health," he said. "Daniel is fine and has not suffered any injuries, let alone serious ones."

Police are still working to piece together exactly how the crash happened. Early findings suggest a car travelling on Via Caracciolo collided with Maldini's vehicle as it pulled out from Piazza Caneva, with investigators indicating Maldini's car may have failed to give way. The front left of his car reportedly hit the front right of the other vehicle, before that car then went on to strike the parked Mercedes SUV.

Just hours before the crash, Maldini had been the hero for Cagliari, scoring the decisive penalty in their win away at Atalanta in Bergamo on Saturday.

With no injuries and the legal side of things clarified, Maldini is now expected to return to training with his Cagliari teammates as the club looks ahead to its next Serie A fixtures.
