Juventus Brought in Woltemade to Replace Departing David, Says Reporter
Juventus signed Nick Woltemade in the last transfer window to fill the gap left by Jonathan David, who moved to Atletico Madrid on a late loan deal. David had struggled during his time in Turin, and the club was happy to let him leave, which meant finding a replacement for the striker role.
Juventus had originally wanted Joshua Zirkzee for the job, but a deal for the Dutchman could not be done. The club then moved quickly to bring in Woltemade instead.
The Bianconeri hope the German can lift their attack and believe he has the quality to make the team better this season. He is expected to get plenty of game time as he tries to settle in at his new club. Juventus are also weighing up starting him alongside Randal Kolo Muani, and think the pair could form a strong partnership if both get regular minutes.
But according to journalist Enzo Bucchioni, money played a big part in the decision too, since the club could not stretch to a more expensive option.
"Woltemade is a player who has fallen off the radar of the English league and Juve managed to go for such a profile for economic reasons," he told Tuttojuve.
Even so, Woltemade remains a highly rated player, one who cost Newcastle United a significant fee not long ago, and he could still turn out to be a smart signing for Juventus.
The German striker now has the chance to prove the move was the right call. With regular playing time on offer, he will look to show he can make a real difference for the club this season. If he clicks with Kolo Muani, Juventus could end up with a strong new attacking option. In the end, it will come down to how he performs on the pitch.
