Hull's Sorba Thomas Walks Away Unhurt After Car Flips on Way to Training

Hull City winger Sorba Thomas escaped without injury on Friday morning after his car flipped onto its roof on the way to the club's training ground, Hull have confirmed.

The crash happened on Millhouse Wood Lane in Cottingham, close to the Tigers' training base. Pictures shared on social media showed his grey Land Rover Defender upside down with the windows smashed, on a quiet residential road where locals say cars rarely go faster than 15mph. A member of Hull's staff, believed to be manager Sergej Jakirovic, was pictured at the scene. Humberside Police said officers remained at the site while they looked into what happened and asked people to stay away from the area.

Hull released a statement soon after the pictures began circulating.

"Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club's Cottingham training ground," the statement read. "The club is aware of images of Sorba's car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed."

Thomas, 27, joined Hull from Stoke City on deadline day in a deal worth around £10.5 million. The Wales international has made two appearances since arriving, starting the 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat by Sunderland and coming off the bench in a 0-0 Premier League draw with Aston Villa, a game he later described on Instagram as a "pinch me moment" after making his top-flight debut.

His move ended a standout season at Stoke, where he was named Player of the Year after 10 goals and 13 assists in all competitions. Stoke's sporting director Jon Walters said at the time that the club understood his decision to leave.

"Although we are naturally disappointed with the way it has ended after just one season, I do understand that Sorba had an opportunity to play in the Premier League which, over the past few days, he has expressed a firm desire to take," Walters said.

The crash came just a day after Jakirovic spoke about his new signing at a press conference, saying he had no worries about Thomas stepping up to the Premier League.

"I don't have any doubt about Sorba because he made a difference in the Championship," Jakirovic said. "He is a left winger and we can use him inside like a left-sided No 10. He knows football. He is very good in delivery and his end product is good."

Hull, who have made a strong start to life back in the Premier League after promotion through the Championship play-offs, are due to travel to Chelsea on Saturday at 3pm.
