Darren Fletcher Confronts 'Abusive' Fan Outside Old Trafford After Sabah Win

Manchester United under-18s coach Darren Fletcher confronted a supporter he accused of being abusive toward players after they left Old Trafford without stopping to sign autographs following the club's 4-0 Champions League win over Sabah on Thursday night.

Footage shared on social media showed Fletcher approaching a group of fans waiting near the team buses. He singled out one supporter who had reportedly been abusive as the players headed home, angry that they had not stopped for autographs.

"Hey listen, it doesn't matter, you can't speak like that," Fletcher told the fan, drawing cheers from those nearby.

He then pointed at the fan directly, adding, "You are the reason people don't sign, you are the reason people don't sign."

Other supporters responded by chanting "legend, legend" as Fletcher walked away from the scene.

Fletcher, 42, has led United's under-18 side since July last year and briefly took charge of the first team for two games as interim manager following Ruben Amorim's sacking in January, before Michael Carrick stepped in. As a player, he made 342 appearances for United, scoring 24 goals, and won five Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup during his time at Old Trafford.

The incident is not the first time autograph refusals have caused friction at the club. Fletcher's former teammate Patrice Evra has previously said Sir Alex Ferguson once criticised players for failing to sign autographs during a pre-season tour. United have also grown frustrated in recent years with what has been described as industrial-scale autograph hunting at Old Trafford, where signed items are later sold on rather than kept by fans.

Thursday's win kept United's return to the Champions League on track. First-half goals from Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko put them 3-0 up inside the opening 45 minutes against Champions League newcomers Sabah, before Lisandro Martinez added a fourth after the break.

United now turn their attention to Sunday's Manchester derby.
