Mangut Confident Nasarawa United Will Keep Improving After First Win of NPFL Season
Nasarawa United technical adviser Mbwas Mangut says he's confident his side will keep getting better as the EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League season goes on, after the Solid Miners picked up their first win of the campaign on Sunday.
Nasarawa United beat Bendel Insurance 1-0 in their Matchday Two fixture at the Lafia City Stadium, with Sam Pam scoring the only goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half.
The win came as a welcome turnaround for Mangut, whose side had opened the season with a 3-1 defeat to Barau FC.
Speaking to the club's media after the match, Mangut admitted Bendel Insurance made things difficult for his team, but said he was still encouraged by the overall progress. "It was a difficult game for us. It's only our second game of the season, and I can boldly say that we are improving game by game," he said.
He pointed to a lack of discipline in possession as one of the issues his side needs to iron out. "Somehow, my players seemed to want to please the fans instead of circulating the ball and playing according to our instructions, which exposed us to some mistakes," Mangut said.
Despite that, he remains upbeat about the squad's potential, describing it as a blend of youth and experience that should come together as the season progresses. "We are still a very fresh team, blending experience with youthfulness, and I know we will get better as the campaign progresses," he said.
Looking ahead, Mangut said his focus now turns to preparing for Nasarawa United's next fixture against Rangers International FC in Abeokuta. "The league is still fresh, and we are going to work harder and smarter as we prepare for our next game against Rangers International FC in Abeokuta," he said. "We are hoping to get a decent result there."
