Phil Foden Mocks Man United Fans After City’s 1-0 Derby Win

Phil Foden had the last laugh at Old Trafford, despite being sent off during Manchester City's tight 1-0 win over Manchester United. The England international was caught on camera poking fun at home fans as he left the stadium after a derby full of refereeing controversy.

Foden showed no sympathy for United's supporters as he made his way out following the final whistle. Filmed by fans on his way to the tunnel, the 26-year-old grinned and held up a "1-0" gesture with his fingers toward the United end.

The gesture came in response to abuse from the stands, with some fans calling him a "cheat" after his red card earlier in the match.

Footage of the moment spread quickly on social media, showing Foden looking completely unbothered by the hostile reception. The win kept City's perfect start to the season intact, moving them level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table. United, meanwhile, remain 13th with just four points, a gap Foden seemed happy to point out as he headed for the team bus.

The drama began in the 23rd minute, when referee Michael Oliver showed Foden a straight red card following a clash with United captain Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes had first bundled Foden over near the touchline, and as Foden got back up, he appeared to kick out at the United captain. City were left to play more than an hour with 10 men, but held on and were rewarded when Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game in the 60th minute.

Speaking after the match, City boss Enzo Maresca praised his side's character but questioned why Fernandes was not also punished for his part in the incident. Asked directly whether he thought the red card for Foden was the right call, Maresca suggested Foden should not have been the only one to face action.

"It can be a red card but in the same action it can be a red card for Bruno," Maresca told reporters. "It is what it is."
