Richarlison Reacts with Frustration After Being Left Out of Spurs Squad

Richarlison has publicly voiced his frustration after being left out of Tottenham's squad for Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool, sharing a social media post about his omission with the caption "Why?" alongside a crying emoji.

The Brazil striker's future at Tottenham has grown increasingly uncertain since a proposed move to Vasco da Gama collapsed last week, a breakdown Richarlison has blamed on the club.

According to reports, Tottenham had agreed a fee with the Brazilian side, but personal terms were never finalised before the transfer window in Brazil closed on Friday.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Monday, De Zerbi addressed the situation directly.

"At the start of this season, I spoke to him many times to convince him to stay and he didn't want to," De Zerbi said. "I can't go every day to pray for him to stay. What I have done at the beginning of this season has been to speak with him and to

propose an extension of the contract. If he said, 'no thank you,' I finished my job."

He added that he sees the issue as one between Richarlison and the club rather than something involving him directly.

"I know what happened in the last 45 days. It's not right if I explained. It's not my behaviour. The relationship, the problem is between the player and the club," De Zerbi said.

Richarlison also saw a proposed £35 million move to Everton fall through on deadline day earlier in the summer after he failed to agree personal terms there too. He was then left out of Tottenham's Premier League squad amid an ongoing dispute over the final nine months of his contract.

It is understood Richarlison is now exploring his options and is keen to be released from the remainder of his deal, which runs until next summer, though Tottenham hold the option to trigger a 12-month extension.

His exile comes at a difficult moment for the club, who are still searching for their first Premier League win of the season under De Zerbi. Spurs have failed to score in any of their opening four league matches, a first in the club's history, despite spending more than £300 million over the summer to strengthen the squad following back-to-back 17th-placed finishes.

Richarlison was Tottenham's top scorer last season with 12 goals in all competitions, five more than the next closest players, Micky van de Ven and Joao Palhinha. He also has four goals in seven appearances against Liverpool during his time at the club.

The 29-year-old joined Tottenham from Everton in 2022 following earlier spells at Watford and Everton, and has won 54 caps for Brazil.
