Carvajal Set for Shock LaLiga Move After Real Madrid Exit

Former Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal is in talks to join Getafe as a free agent, and a medical could come soon.

The 34-year-old has had no club since his Madrid contract ran out on June 30. Spanish paper ABC reports that talks with Getafe are going well. Italian reports last week linked him with several Serie A clubs, but staying in Spain now looks the most likely outcome.

A deal would be a big lift for Getafe boss Jose Bordalas, who has been open about needing a bigger squad. His side face a busy season in Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Conference League. They sit 11th in the league with eight points from their first seven games.

Carvajal would bring plenty of top-level know-how. He is a six-time European champion and won a long list of trophies during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The move looks a little odd on paper, because Getafe already have two right-backs. Andres Garcia is on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.

Kiko Femenia, meanwhile, has been out since early September with a hamstring tear in his left leg, which leaves the club short of senior options on that side.

Carvajal's own fitness will be a talking point. He has had several injury problems over the years, so the medical will be a key part of the deal.
