Everton Youngster Martin Sherif Fined £5,000 for Betting Rule Breach

Everton youngster Martin Sherif has been fined £5,000 after admitting he broke Football Association betting rules, but he has avoided a ban.

The 20-year-old forward, who has not yet played for the Everton first team, admitted that he caused, allowed or enabled 61 bets on football matches between November 2024 and February this year. The bets added up to almost £2,000. Sherif said he did not place any of them himself, but accepted that they came from accounts in his name.

An independent regulatory commission heard the case. It took into account that he owned up quickly after being charged in August, that he cooperated with the process, and that he showed “genuine remorse.”

Sherif is a Netherlands youth international who joined Everton at 13. Last season he was on loan at Rotherham and Port Vale, scoring two League One goals for each club in 24 games in total.

Everton, meanwhile, are unbeaten in the Premier League this season, with two wins and three draws from their first five games. They are seventh in the table and visit Hull City at the MKM Stadium on Sunday.
