Former Liverpool Star Jamie Carragher Avoids Bankruptcy Over Unpaid Tax Bill

Jamie Carragher will not be made bankrupt after he settled an unpaid tax bill with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Judge Nicholas Briggs dismissed a bankruptcy petition against the former Liverpool defender at the Insolvency and Companies Court in London.

The petition was issued in August. Kevin Hassan, for HMRC, told the hearing that the debt has now been paid. No figure was given in court, but it was previously said to be in the region of £700,000 to £800,000.

Carragher, 48, is from Merseyside. He spent his whole professional career at Liverpool and was part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2005.

He retired in 2013 after 737 appearances for the club and has since worked as a pundit on Sky Sports and CBS Sports.
