Vincent Kompany Taken to Hospital After Collapsing at Bayern Munich Training
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has reportedly been taken to hospital after an emergency doctor was called to the club's training ground on Friday afternoon.
According to BILD, an air ambulance helicopter landed at Bayern's Sabener Strasse base, and the 40-year-old Belgian was then taken to a Munich hospital by ambulance with medical staff.
The club has not put out an official update or statement yet, and the exact reason for the emergency call and his current condition are still unconfirmed.
Kompany has been unwell for about a week with a nasty viral infection. After Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal, he admitted he had pushed on despite feeling rough.
"As a coach, you always want to do everything and take care of everything," Kompany said. "I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, then of course I didn't listen to my body, and eventually my body said: Now stop!"
The illness has clearly taken its toll. He had to lie down on a sofa in his office at half-time and again after Bayern's 6-1 win over RB Leipzig.
The infection also reportedly caused problems with old scar tissue, which made simple things like climbing stairs hard. He missed first-team training early in the week and left the press duties to assistant coach Aaron Danks.
"The most important thing, which we are encouraging him to do right now, is to rest and take the time he needs, however long that may take," Danks said on Tuesday.
Even so, Kompany was back on the touchline for the Arsenal game at the Allianz Arena. Bayern now wait for news on his health, with their next Bundesliga match coming up on 25 October.
