Liverpool Agree £123m Deal for PSG's Bradley Barcola

Liverpool have struck a deal worth up to £123 million to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, with the France international set for a medical this weekend ahead of signing a long-term contract at Anfield.

PSG had originally wanted £145 million for the 23-year-old, but the two clubs have now settled on a package worth an initial £106 million plus £17 million in add-ons.

Barcola, who is right-footed but prefers playing on the left wing, can also operate on the right or through the middle. His arrival is expected to deepen the uncertainty over Cody Gakpo's future at the club, with sources telling BBC Sport that both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have shown interest in the Dutch forward.

Liverpool are still looking to add a right winger too, having already looked into moves for Brighton's Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr.

Barcola has emerged as one of Liverpool's top targets this summer as they try to strengthen their attack following the exits of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah in back-to-back transfer windows. He joined PSG from Lyon in 2023 for around £38.5 million and has gone on to win three Ligue 1 titles, two Champions Leagues, two French Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup during his time in Paris. He also scored three goals for France at this summer's World Cup.

At Liverpool, he could provide cover for Alexander Isak while Hugo Ekitike continues his recovery from a serious Achilles injury.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's game against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola was asked directly about Gakpo's future and admitted he could not make any promises, though he made clear he wants to keep the forward at the club.

"He has been very good since he came back from the World Cup and his holiday, with a very good attitude. I hope we can keep him at that level because I think he has been very influential in our games," Iraola said.

Why the Deal Makes Sense for Both Sides

Barcola has been a top priority for Liverpool ever since Yan Diomande chose to join Real Madrid earlier in the transfer window. Should the move go through at the full £123 million, it would set a new record fee for a player leaving Ligue 1.

For PSG, the sale looks like good business. They paid roughly £38 million for Barcola and stand to more than triple that fee if all the add-ons are triggered, all for a player who is heading into the final two years of his contract and has shown little interest in extending his stay. He had also started to slip behind Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the pecking order for PSG's biggest games last season, and the Ligue 1 champions have further strengthened their wide options this summer by bringing in Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts.

For Liverpool, landing Barcola after standing firm against PSG's original £145 million asking price feels like a win too. He adds genuine star quality to an attack that could become one of the most feared in Europe if last summer's big-money arrivals, Isak and Florian Wirtz, continue to deliver on their promise
