Finidi George: Rivers United Have to Accept Nasarawa United Draw

Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George says he's satisfied with a share of the spoils after his side drew 1-1 with Nasarawa United in Sunday night's NPFL Matchday 4 clash at the Lafia City Stadium.

Rivers United had looked on course for all three points after taking the lead in the 66th minute, courtesy of an own goal from Nasarawa United defender Harrison Ebah. But the hosts weren't done, hauling themselves level six minutes from time when Musa Yakubu converted from the penalty spot.

Even though his side let the lead slip, Finidi was pleased overall with how his players performed and happy to head back to Port Harcourt with something to show for it.

"Every game is difficult, even when playing at home this season. We have to find a way to get the much-needed points," Finidi told reporters after the match. "I think my boys did well, but towards the end of the game, they defended a little too deep, which resulted in the incident that led to the penalty."

Finidi revealed he'd tried to get a message across to his players from the touchline as Nasarawa United pushed for an equaliser.

"I was shouting from the bench for them to come out a little bit, to come outside the box, so that situations like conceding a penalty would not occur. Unfortunately, they got a penalty and scored. I think the penalty was questionable, but the referee said he saw it. We have to accept that, move on and think about the next match."

The draw leaves Rivers United in fourth place on the NPFL table with seven points from three games, and they still have a match in hand on several of their rivals. Attention now turns to their next league fixture, away to Kun Khalifat FC.
