WSL Sunday Roundup: Man City Beat Arsenal 4-2 as Chelsea Win Again and London City Thrash Spurs

Manchester City beat Arsenal 4-2 to go back to the top of the Women's Super League, London City Lionesses thrashed Tottenham 6-1, and Chelsea won again to stay in the title mix.

Manchester City had to fight back twice at the Etihad Stadium. Lisa Baum gave Arsenal the lead in the 43rd minute, but Lauren Hemp levelled in first-half stoppage time with a powerful finish from a tight angle. Alessia Russo put the visitors back in front four minutes into the second half after Yui Hasegawa's loose pass. City hit back through substitute Kerstin Casparij, who curled one into the top corner with her first touch in the 63rd minute. Hemp put them ahead in the 72nd minute, and Khadija Shaw sealed it with a deflected shot from the edge of the box in the 84th.

The win means Manchester City are the only team with a perfect record this season, and Arsenal are 10 points behind them after five games. The pressure on Gunners boss Renee Slegers is growing. Her side had a bad few days even before kick-off, since she skipped the post-match media duties after the draw with Paris FC in midweek. Baum's goal also stood despite replays hinting at offside, and Mariona Caldentey went off in tears with a suspected hamstring injury just before the break.

London City Lionesses looked like real title challengers at the BetWright Stadium, ending Tottenham's unbeaten start. Alexia Putellas and Kadidiatou Diani both scored twice. Putellas scored after three minutes and again in the 34th, while Diani struck in the 22nd and 74th. Danielle van de Donk made it 4-0 early in the second half, and substitute Delphine Cascarino added a sixth in stoppage time. Victoria Pelova scored a quick reply for Tottenham in the 53rd minute, but it only made the score 4-1 at the time.

At West Ham, Chelsea won their fourth league game in a row with a 3-0 win. Melvine Malard put them ahead in the 38th minute, Keira Walsh smashed in a second in the 80th, and Maika Hamano nodded in a third seven minutes later. West Ham did not have a single shot.

Everton beat Birmingham City 2-1 at Goodison Park to move up to fifth. Ruby Mace scored twice, in the 12th and 72nd minutes, while Oceane Hurtré had equalised for Birmingham in the 15th minute. The visitors are still winless after five games.

Brighton & Hove Albion won for the first time this season, beating Charlton Athletic 5-1. Cassandra Korhonen gave Charlton a shock lead in the third minute, but Kiko Seike levelled in the 25th and Fran Kirby made it 2-1 just before the break. Seike added her second in the 54th minute, and late goals from Maisie Symonds and Gabby George finished the job. Charlton are the only side without a point, and only the third team in WSL history to lose their first five games.

Aston Villa and Crystal Palace drew 1-1 at Villa Park. Noelle Maritz scored in the 55th minute, and Abbie Larkin equalised in the 74th. It was new boss Brian Sorensen's first league game after Natalia Arroyo was sacked this week. Villa are winless in five and third from bottom, while Palace sit eighth.
